o is the event aimed at?
2. The event is aimed at anyone who is interested in how entrepreneurship can be used to improve the quality and availability of education. We particularly welcome teachers, academics, consultants, NGOs, international agencies, private foundations, and companies with a strong focus on education and employment.

 

What will I get out of taking part?
3. You will have the chance to learn directly from the practitioners who are pioneering sustainable education in their schools and share their experiences and ideas. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of new approaches by showcasing your work and ideas, as well as establishing new collaborative relationships.  Above all – come to see what ‘Education That Pays For Itself’ is and how it works!

 

What exactly is ‘Education That Pays For Itself’?
4. 'Education That Pays For Itself’ is an innovative approach to education that involves establishing profit-making businesses in schools in order to teach students practical and business skills in a real-life context , while generating income for school facilities and staff.  The benefits are increased financial autonomy and stability for the school as well as increased availability and quality of education for the students.
 

 

How much does the conference cost?
5. Early bird tickets: The three day conference costs £225 GBP ($300 USD) for participants from developed countries, £150 GBP ($200 USD) for those from developing countries, and £95 GBP ($125 USD/2,000 ZAR) for South African participants if you register before the 30th of September

 

Those booking after this date will pay £265 GBP ($350 USD), £190 GBP ($250 USD), £110 GBP ($150 USD/2,250 ZAR) respectively.

 

Lunch at the conference as well as dinner on the first and second evening of the conference are included in the registration fee. 

 

Flights, accomodation and internal transfers are not included in the registration fee.

 

Are there any sponsored places?
6. Unfortunately we are unable to offer sponsorship for participants who cannot cover costs associated with attending this event. We encourage people wishing to come and who need such sponsorship to start looking for funding as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Can I make a presentation at the event?
7. If you wish to make a presentation or hold a round-table session then please get in touch with us at conference@educationthatpaysforitself.org

 

Can you help me with an invitation letter for my work / visa application?
8. Yes, we can provide you with an invitation letter to the conference, just contact us on conference@teachamantofish.org.uk giving us full details of participant names to be included in the letter, who it should be addressed to, and any other specific requirements.

 

Note: Invitation letters for work purposes may be sent ahead of registration, however for letters in support of visa applications we require you to have registered and paid for your conference place before we can to provide this.

 

Do I need a visa to enter India?
9. Please note: All visitors must check visa requirements with their embassies ASAP.

10. All materials, presentations and workshops will be held in English. French translation will also be provided where possible.

 

How do I get to the conference venue?

11. Upon Arrival
Participants must make their way to their booked accommodation. LIV School is roughly 30 minutes away from the suggested hotels.If you are not taking the shuttle buses provided directions from Durban to the school can be found here: http://www.liv-village.com/contact


Over the duration of the conference
There will be shuttle buses available all day for the three days of the conference to take participants to and from any of the recommended hotels. If participants choose to stay in other accommodation of their own choice, they will be expected to make their own way to the conference.


Please note that although the above independent travel information is true and correct to the best of our knowledge, it is subject to change and Education That Pays For Itself partners cannot be held responsible for any inconvenience caused by said changes

12. All accommodation should be booked directly with your hotel. We have selected three hotels a short distance from the conference venue which should suit all needs and budgets. We will provide free shuttle buses daily to take conference delegates to and from these accommodation options to the conference.
Conference delegates are also free to make alternative accommodation arrangements but will not be able to avail of our free shuttle bus service.

 

Can I bring my husband / wife / partner along?

13. Attendees can bring their husband, wife or partner without any problems. If this person does not intend to participate in the conference they will not have to pay the registration fee. You will be responsible for arranging their visa, accommodation and meals independently.

 

What will the weather be like? What clothing should I pack?

14. The climate in November/December in and around Durban averages 24°C during the day. In the evenings the weather is pleasant but clothing layers are recommended.

 

Will I have mobile phone reception / internet access at the venue?
15. All hotels have internet access, please see our accommodation page. There will be mobile phone reception at the venue, however we are unable to ensure the consistant quality of coverage. This will be dependent on your roaming network when abroad, or you could buy a local sim card upon arrival.
