Lungisisa Indlela Village (LIV) provides holistic residential care for vulnerable children with the core vision to rescue a child, restore a life, raise a leader and release a star. LIV Village has been in operation since 2010. It is located 8km outside Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal, in the community of Cottonlands. 96 environmentally friendly homes have been built and provide accommodation for the mothers, staff and children.

The overall goal of LIV Village is to provide increased access to and quality care through education and health care; and stimulate healthy cognitive development of vulnerable and orphaned children and impoverished communities at LIV Village and in the surrounding communities. LIV Village was set up as a cluster foster-care project, and at present there are 160 children living with 43 house mothers. Educational facilities on site include an ECD centre, a preparatory school and a high school, with classes presently up to Grade 10. A LIV Culinary School has been established in conjunction with the International Hotel School to provide community members with an accredited chef’s training course.

The LIV Health Centre looks after the health and therapy needs of the children, mothers and workers on the village. A community clinic has also been built and just waiting registration with the Department of Health, and will provide health care to the community surrounding the Village. The dedicated Social Services Department care for the social needs of the children and mothers, and partner with the statutory social workers from the Department of Social Development in placing new children on the Village.

LIV also has sports facilities, a multi-purpose hall complete with adjacent office block and a skills training centre and clothing factory for local community members.
